Ismail Mahomed is the Director of the Centre for Creative Arts at the University of Kwazulu-Natal. With more than 35-years’ experience in cultural leadership, his previous occupations include serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Market Theatre Foundation, Artistic Director of the National Arts Festival, and Senior Cultural Specialist of the US Embassy. He is a multi-award-winning arts administrator and a published playwright. His play Purdah is published in Drama for a New South Africa (Indiana University Press). His play Cheaper than Roses is published by Routledge. His commentary on arts and culture has been published in South African publications. Amongst his several accolades he was awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, by the French  government, for deepening cultural ties between France and South Africa
