Official Opening
The official opening of the Time of the Writer festival streamed from the Luthuli Museum will set the context for the festival’s theme “Beyond Words: Memory, Imagination & Conscience”. The programme will highlight why the festival curators have sought inspiration from the 60th anniversary of Chief Albert Luthuli’s publication, Let My People Go, and their intent to curate the 2022 edition of the festival by delving into how, beyond the writing of words, writers are leaders who stir memory, imagination and conscience. Acclaimed writer Nokuthula Mazibuko–Msimang delivers the keynote address. Writer, poet, novelist and public intellectual Mandla Langa is introduced as the Festival’s Featured Author.
