SYLVIA ZULU  is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Media, Language and Communication. She has a doctorate in Afrikaans and her research was on Causality and Transitivity in Afrikaans using a Cognitive Approach. Before coming to DUT, she lectured full time at Umbumbulu College of Education and part time at the University of Zululand (Durban- Umlazi Campus). She also worked as a Quality Assurance Co-ordinator at Camperdown District Office (DOE). She is a professional translator and has translated some books into isiZulu namely, Exploring the History of Ukhahlamba Mountains by John Wright and Aron Mazel, Zola by Mark Lewis and Tanya Zack, Daughters of Modjadji by Natasha Allie, Baba-Tamana Gqubule and Thandiwe Mathews; Dear Girl-Child by Carol Nkambule and Growing to be Great-Awesome African Achievers by Judy Dlamini. She is an external moderator for Translation at UNISA and Wits. Her research interests are in Linguistics and Translation. She has successfully supervised several B. Tech and Masters’ students.
