Featured author Dr Sindiwe Magona is iconic in South African literature and theatre. She has produced theatrical plays and continues delivering authoritative lectures and key addresses at universities and conferences locally and internationally. Until her retirement in 2003, she contributed immeasurably in various capacities to the work of the United Nations (UN), an organisation in which she served for 20 years.
Even after retirement, she continues to pen literary works, initiate writersâ conferences, lead womenâs rights advocacy and write childrenâs educational books. Her internationally acclaimed work includes Beautyâs Gift; Living, Loving, and Lying Awake at Night; To My Childrenâs Children; Teach Yourself Xhosa; and Push-Push and Other Stories. Her plays include I Promised Myself A Fabulous Middle-Age and Vukani! She is the recipient of numerous awards. Zukiswa Wanner unpacks her keynote address, the festival theme and her career with her.
