Theme: Writing Freeform Shapes
“Writing Freeform Shapes” will reflect on the interaction of imagination and writing as relational creative process. Inspired by Es’kia Mphahlele’s (1993) paper “Educating the Imagination”, we will reflect on the role of writing both as reenactment and as extension of artistic practice in creative research. Participants will be invited to experiment with writing as imagination in short writing exercises.
We are Londiwe Mtshali, Pebofatso Mokoena, Philiswa Lila and Fouad Asfour and have run writing groups with artists and writers over the past few years. In experimental writing, we aim to re-invent and re-create spaces for writing, inviting processes of co-creation that respond to ethics of space, community, voice, process, and infinite time.
Panelists: Londiwe Mtshali, Pebofatso Mokoena, Philiswa Lila and Fouad Asfour.
