Poetic Symphony : Poetry Africa Slam Poetry Champion (2023), Lethu Nkwanyana and Brass Quintet
Poetic Symphony is an innovative and experimental concert integrating Spoken Word Poetry and Music. The project created and presented by Poetry Africa in collaboration with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra promises to be an interactive, fun event, creating opportunities for poets and musicians to share the stage and perform individually and collaboratively. For each concert a South African composer has been commissioned to write the music for the interactive performance between the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and Poetry Africa’s celebrated Spoken Word poets.
Each concert will be between 50 and 60 minutes long and will comprise 2 poet renditions (alone), 2 musical renditions (alone) and one collaborative performance of a newly composed piece to match an existing poem. The event is presented to mark UNESCO’s International Day of Poetry and South Africa’s Human Rights Day. Poetic Symphony is made possible with the support of the Mzansi Orchestra and the National Arts Council.
