Ziyanda Stuurman is a public policy, policing, and security analyst, and author of the book “Can We Be Safe? The future of policing in South Africa”. She has previously worked as a Policy Researcher in Parliament, Communications Coordinator for the public opinion polling think tank Afrobarometer, and Policy Manager for J-PAL Africa based at the University of Cape Town. Ziyanda is a former student leader and SRC member, and she has worked on several projects focused on youth voter campaigns and violence prevention programming in schools. Ziyanda holds undergraduate degrees from Stellenbosch University, and Masters degrees from Sussex University and Brandeis University, and she is an alumna of the Chevening and Fulbright scholarship programs.
