Gugu Mkhize is a lecturer specialising in phonetics, phonology, terminology, Zulu culture and heritage and basic isiZulu. She is the external examiner for phonetics and phonology at UNISA, and for cultural research at UNIZULU and WITS. Mkhize is the co-author of Asifunde, contributing more on cultural aspects. She is currently focusing more on term development to widen the scope of isiZulu vocabulary to function at all levels of technology development. She also functions as a terminology collaborator in various terminology projects commissioned by The Department of Arts and Culture, both national and provincial, The Department of Statistics South Africa, and the University of KwaZulu Natal language service, better known as ULPDO.
