Rémy Ngamije is a Rwandan-born Namibian novelist, short story writer, essayist, columnist, poet, and photographer. Born in Kigali, Rwanda, in 1988, he moved with his family to Nairobi, Kenya, in 1994 and then settled in Windhoek, Namibia, in 1996.
His debut novel, The Eternal Audience of One, follows the intersecting lives of Séraphin and a host of eclectic characters from pre- and post-1994 Rwanda, colonial and post-Independence Windhoek, Paris and Brussels in the 70s, the crowded public schools of Nairobi, as well as the hormone-saturated clubs and streets of Cape Town—was published by Blackbird Books in July 2019.
His short stories have appeared in Litro Magazine (UK), AFREADA (UK), The Johannesburg Review of Books (RSA) The Kalahari Review (BW), The Amistad (US), American Chordata (USA), Azure (USA), Sultan’s Seal (EGY), and Doek! (NA). His non-fiction is forthcoming in the Santa Ana Review (US) while his poetry will also be published in My Heart in Your Hands: Poems from Namibia by UNAM Press.
Rémy currently writes for brainwavez.org, a writing collective based in Cape Town, South Africa, and maintains a regular column in The Namibian, Namibia’s largest daily newspaper. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of Namibia’s first literary magazine: Doek!
Rémy is a graduate of the University of Cape Town (UCT) and holds BA English & Law and LLB degrees respectively. He has worked as a copywriter, graphic designer, photographer, editor, and English educator. He currently owns and runs Namibia’s only full-time salsa studio, the Salsa Windhoek Social Club.
